About FishNY

FishNY is a New York–focused fishing resource built to help anglers find reliable, practical information about the waters they fish.

My name is Brian Bluff, and I’m a lifelong Upstate New Yorker who has spent years around the lakes, rivers, and outdoor traditions that make this state special. I’m the publisher and editor behind FishNY.com, and my role is to collect, organize, and maintain fishing information so it’s easy to find, easy to understand, and relevant to New York conditions.

Several years ago, I acquired the content archives of Lake Ontario Outdoors Magazine and Adirondack Outdoors Magazine. Those magazines contained hundreds of well-written fishing articles created by experienced anglers, outdoor writers, and fisheries experts. FishNY grew out of a desire to preserve that knowledge, update it where needed, and make it accessible in a modern, searchable format — while also expanding it with new, New York–specific content.

Today, FishNY blends professional writing, trusted sources, and community insight to help anglers make better decisions — whether they’re planning a trip, researching a body of water, or just trying to understand what might work where they fish.

I’m not a professional angler or fishing guide, and I don’t try to present myself as one.

I’ve fished New York waters at different points in my life, but my role at FishNY is primarily editorial. I focus on working with writers, contributors, and trusted sources to make sure information is accurate, practical, and clearly explained. When firsthand experience matters, FishNY relies on experienced contributors, verified angler feedback, and reputable data to help guide recommendations.

FishNY isn’t built around one person’s fishing stories. It’s built around good information, thoughtful organization, and respect for the people who use it.

What Makes FishNY Different

There’s no shortage of fishing information online. FishNY exists to make New York–specific information easier to find and easier to use.

A few things set FishNY apart:

  • A New York focus
Everything here is written or curated with New York waters, species, regulations, and seasonal patterns in mind.
  • A strong content foundation
FishNY is built on decades of professionally written fishing content from established outdoor magazines, combined with new material created specifically for this site.
  • Editorial curation
Information is reviewed, updated, and organized intentionally — not published just to fill space.
  • Community input, used responsibly
When anglers share reports, photos, or observations, they’re reviewed before being added so the site stays useful and trustworthy.

A long-term mindset
FishNY isn’t about chasing trends or quick wins. The goal is to build a resource anglers can rely on year after year.

Content Organized to Best Support You

Fishing information is most helpful when it’s easy to navigate. FishNY is organized around how anglers actually think and plan.

You’ll find content grouped by:

lakes, rivers, streams, and access points

where they’re found in New York and how they behave seasonally

how different methods apply to local conditions

Practical, season-focused fishing insights that explain how timing and conditions shape fishing across New York waters.

Transparency Matters

Trust matters here.

Some pages on FishNY include affiliate links. If you purchase a product through one of those links, FishNY may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Those links don’t influence what we write about or recommend. When products are mentioned, it’s because they fit New York conditions and are commonly used or referenced by experienced anglers.

When community input is included, it’s clearly identified. When information comes from magazine archives or authoritative sources, that context is respected.

The goal is to be straightforward about how FishNY works and why information appears where it does.

Our Goal

FishNY exists to be a helpful, trustworthy resource for New York anglers — whether you’re fishing a familiar local spot or exploring somewhere new.

The goal isn’t to tell you what to buy or where to fish.
It’s to give you the information you need to make your own decisions with confidence.
